TB on the drop in Chitral

CHITRAL, June 26: District TB control officer Dr Noorul Islam has said relentless efforts have resulted in controlling the deadly disease of tuberculosis in the district.

Speaking on the occasion of the concluding ceremony of a three-day seminar for the doctors and paramedics on the theme of “TB drug management” here on Sunday, Dr Islam said the district programme had already achieved the millennium development goals (MDGs) which envisaged reducing the number of TB patients and as well as mortality rate to half by 2015.

Mr Islam said to ensure the efficacy of the TB drugs, the training of paramedics and doctors on modern lines in consonant with the latest research was carried out during the three-day seminar which was held with the collaboration of Association for Community Development (ACD).

He said TB diagnostic centres had been established in all the union councils of the district which were run by the paramedics who were imparted training to keep them abreast with the modern research.

The programme coordinator of ACD Dr Zabihullah Afridi asked the participants to put to practice the latest knowledge transmitted to them. Certificates were also given to the participants on the occasion.
