Should Pakistan pray for rain this year?
Pakistan warned that floods triggered by monsoon rains could affect millions more people this year, but claimed it was better prepared after a massive humanitarian crisis in 2010. Monsoon-triggered floods in 2010 affected up to 21 million people and killed an estimated 1,750 people, causing an estimated 10 billion USD in losses and hammering the already depressed economy.
Up to five million people in Pakistan are at risk from floods this year, partly due to poor reconstruction and the inadequate rehabilitation of survivors who are still reeling from last year's epic deluge, the United Nations said. - Photos by agencies
