QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani has asked the chief secretary to implement recommendations of the judicial tribunal on the Kharotabad incident and make its report public.

Official sources said on Wednesday that the tribunal, headed by Justice Mohammad Hashim Kakar of the Balochistan High Court, submitted to the chief minister its report on the Kharotabad incident of May 17 in which five foreigners, three of them women, were killed by security personnel.

“The report should be made public and all recommendations implemented,” Mr Raisani said.

On Tuesday, a senior official had said the government would not make the report public. But the government changed its mind within 24 hours.

The sources said the tribunal had recommended action against those police and security personnel who were found guilty of killing the foreigners.

The chief minister confirmed that he had received the report.

GWADAR PORT: Talking to reporters at the Balochistan Assembly premises, Mr Raisani said his government wanted to take control of the Gwadar port, adding that the provincial government had the capability to run mega projects.

“We have experts, technology and resources to run the Gwadar port and Reko Diq projects,” he said, adding that huge allocations had been made in the budget for the purpose.

He sought the annulment of the agreement with a private company for running the port. Mr Raisani announced that Gwadar would be Balochistan’s winter capital.

In reply to a question, he said the federal government should bear expenditures, till the next NFC Award, of the ministries being devolved to the provinces.

“The four chief ministers will have to adopt a joint strategy if the federal government does not agree to bear expenditures of federal ministries being transferred to the provinces under the 18th Amendment,” he added.
