Qureshi not reinstated as head of NICL probe

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on Friday said that the apex court could reinstate Zafar Qureshi as head of the NICL scam probe but would prefer the government to do so, DawnNews reported.

During a hearing of the NICL case, Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq informed the court that the government had not reappointed Mr Qureshi as the chief investigation officer in inquiry.

Mr Haq further said that media reports stating that Mr Qureshi was reappointed to head the inquiry were false.

Moreover, Mr Haq told the court that reports stating that the government was trying to pressurise Mr Qureshi over the probe were false.

During today’s proceedings, Chief Justice Iftikhar also directed Mr Qureshi to appear in court with his suspension records.

In his remarks, Chief Justice Iftikhar stated he would write to the Lahore High Court's chief justice for information on the political dynamics of the scam.
