Pakistan off to Asian Confederation Boxing Championship

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan boxers will depart for South Korea on Wednesday to participate in the 26th Asian Confederation Boxing Championship, scheduled to take place from August 5-12 in Incheon city of Korea.

Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) Secretary Mohammad Akram told newsmen on Tuesday that six Pakistani pugilists will compete in different weight categories including Mohammad Wasim in 52kg event, Usman Butt (56kg) Amir Khan (64kg), Arshad Khan (69kg), Nisar (75kg) and Yasir Javed (91kg).

“Qadir Khan, who was to compete in the 60kg event is not leaving with the team due to illness,” Akram stated.

He said the federation was sending an increased number of boxers to the championship since it would be the last international assignment before the World Championship that would serve as the Olympic qualifiers.

“We have decided to give maximum exposure to our boys ahead of World Championship,” he added.

Over 150 boxers from 24 countries of Asia will be competing in the Championships. —APP
