Overflowing drains flood streets in Sukkur, Rohri

SUKKUR, Aug 4: People of Sukkur and Rohri are facing tremendous difficulties due to overflowing drains as administration of North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) has miserably failed to improve the system.

Sewage could be seen flowing on or around the Clock Tower roundabout, Jinnah Chowk, Nishter Road, Pan Mandi and Miani Road creating problems for pedestrians.

A large number o people who regularly visit markets lodged a strong complaint against the NSUSC for its failure to maintain the system.

Shopkeepers also criticised the municipal authorities because of their incompetence to clear chocked drains.

According to a spokesman for the NSUSC, Syed Hassan Ali Shah, a fault had developed in the generator installed at Miani drainage system as a result of which sewage could not be pumped. Sanitary inspectors concerned, he added, had been directed to get the drains cleansed.

On the other hand, due to changes in administrative set-up of NSUSC, its employees demonstrated in front of the main office of the corporation in Sukkur on Thursday.

In Rohri town, a similar protest demonstration was held by the sanitary workers and employees of water works at Karbala ground under the leadership of the Municipal Employees Union.
