Punjab Assembly session prorogued after rumpus

LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly Speaker on Thursday prorogued the session for an indefinite period after rumpus in the House.

Moreover the PPP has announced to run a campaign for the Seraiki province after Eid-ul-Fitr, DawnNews reported.

The Punjab session was summoned on the requisition of the opposition to discuss issue of a new province in southern Punjab.

Earlier, Speaker Rana Mohammed Iqbal had to adjourn the assembly session for an hour due to an ugly situation that had taken place following clashes between PPP legislator Fauzia Behram and Ali Haider Noor Niazi of the unification bloc.

As soon as the House went into session, opposition leader Raja Riaz taking the floor urged the Speaker to ask Ali Noor Niazi to apologise for his indecent remarks against a female member.

On it, an emotionally charged Niazi told the Chair he would not do so as he did not commit any wrong.

Rather, he complained to the Speaker that the lady member had pricked him with a pencil when he was delivering a speech.

As the situation went out of control because of slogans and counter-slogans being raised by both treasury and opposition members, the Speaker prorogued the session.
