Boulder kills three in Skardu

SKARDU, Aug 17: Three people were killed and four received injuries when a boulder rolled down during heavy rain at Rudokas camp site in Baltoro area of Baltistan the other day.

Residents of the area said that seven porters took shelter under the boulder from heavy rain but the boulder rolled down and buried them.

They said that Akbar, Mohammad Hussain and Mohammad died on the spot while Arif Hussain, Mohammad Yaseen, Essa Khan and Mukhtar sustained injuries in the incident.

The injured were shifted to district headquarters hospital in Skardu on Wednesday morning through an army helicopter. The bodies of deceased were handed over to their relatives.

The victims were working for two different travel companies on daily wages and were on their way to Askoli from Concordia with a British expedition group.
