Qureshi annoys court
LAHORE, Aug 19: The district and sessions judge on Friday expressed displeasure at a fax message sent by FIA Additional Director General Zafar Ahmed Qureshi for adjournment of the hearing of bail petitions filed by two accused involved in the National Insurance Company Limited scam.
The judge, Mujahid Mustaqeem, observed that FIA officials should appear in the court in person or send their representatives. The judge, however, adjourned bail pleas of Rizwan Bhatti and Muhammad Khalil till Aug 22.
Bail rejected: An additional district and sessions judge on Friday rejected the post-arrest bail of Dr Mubashar, Imran and Abdullah involved in an illegal business of the human organs transplant.
North Cantonment police had on July 1, 2011, arrested the three accused along with others, including Dr Hanif, from a house near Allama Iqbal International Airport when they were busy in transplanting a kidney into a foreigner patient.
EXTENDED: A judicial magistrate of Model Town courts on Friday extended till Aug 22 the physical remand of a woman who had killed her teenaged servant for not serving meal to his pet dog.
Deceased Taqi Usman of Chiniot was servant of Sadia Asif in Valencia Town. The police had registered an FIR against the woman on the complaint of deceased's father.
LG polls: A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging commissionerate system in the Punjab province and not holding of local government elections.
Advocate Rana Ilamudin Ghazi filed the petition and stated that appointment of administrators was in violation of Article 32 of the Constitution. He said people's problems were increasing but the Punjab government was adamant to not to hold LG elections. He said by doing so government was forcing people to approach PML-N MNAs and MPAs for solution to their problems.
He requested the court to cancel appointment of administrators / commissioners and direct the government to hold LG elections without any further delay.
