CJ takes suo motu notice of Karachi situation

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry took a suo motu notice of Karachi's deteriorating security situation on Monday, DawnNews reported.

Chief Justice Iftikhar directed the government to submit a record regarding the ongoing unrest in the metropolis.

The notice was taken in response to a newspaper story.

In a related development, a petition was filed in the Sindh High Court to stop the unrest in the port city.

Moreover, at least seven people had been killed in different areas of the city on Monday as Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani visited the provincial capital.

It is pertinent to note that at least 102 people have been killed in the city during the past week.
