Khairpur varsity VC accused of discrimination

KHAIRPUR, Aug 23: Academic staff of the Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) on Wednesday continued its protest against the policies adopted by Vice Chancellor Dr Nilofer Shaikh.

Teachers associated with Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers’ Association (SALUTA) took out a procession from Department of Economics to the VC office where they staged a sit-in for two hours. They were carrying banners inscribed with their demands.

Earlier, speaking at a meeting on Monday evening, SALUTA president Dr Abdul Majeed Chandio, accused the vice-chancellor of behaving like a bureaucrat and her partial attitude had compelled them to lodge a protest against her.

He accused the vice-chancellor of adopting a discriminatory attitude and ignoring merit in awarding foreign scholarships under the Faculty Development and Strengthening Project approved by the Higher Education Commission.

He said university teachers, who had cleared the GRE test, were not awarded foreign scholarships for advanced studies and those who had cleared the viva voce for PhD were not being awarded thus the career of these meritorious teachers was being destroyed.—BoC
