Multan Bar lends support to Hamid

MULTAN, Nov 7: The Lahore High Court Bar Association, Multan bench, has expressed full support for Supreme Court Bar Association president Hamid Khan for what its resolution said his principled stand.

A meeting of the Bar was held here on Thursday with its president Arif Alvi in the chair. Secretary Najaf Husain Chawan conducted the meeting convened to deliberate upon the stand-off between the apex court and the SCBA.

Later, a resolution was issued to the press which says LHCBA’s Multan bench wants upholding of the constitution and sovereignty of the democratic institutions in the country, especially the independence of judiciary.

It further reads “the stand taken by Supreme Court Bar Association president Hamid Khan while withdrawing his constitutional petition from the apex court was just and appropriate and the Bar thinks the remarks passed by the apex court judges as against the freedom of expression and interest of the lawyers community.”

The LHCBA has urged the judges not to take oath under the Legal Framework Order, 2002, and protect the 1973 constitution unanimously. “Lawyers have always played their role to protect democracy and constitution in the country and no threats can work to retreat the Bars from their stand.”
