Chakra Goth attack case: Three ‘arrested’ suspects yet to be produced in court

KARACHI, Sept 5: While police on Monday obtained extension in physical custody of two suspects in a case pertaining to a deadly gun attack on a bus of reserve police, they did not produce three other suspects in court they had claimed to have arrested last month.The police had released pictures of the three alleged attackers — Kamran Madhuri, Abdul Bashar Bengali and Sohail Commando — to the media, claiming to have got their confessions in which they admitted to have attacked the bus.

At least four people, including three policemen, were killed and 30 others wounded when a group of 15 to 20 gunmen riding motorcycles opened fire on the bus carrying dozens of policemen on the night of Aug 19 at Chakra Goth in Korangi.

On Monday, the police produced Abdul Hakeem and Atif alias Asif before the administrative judge of anti-terrorism courts in Karachi, Justice Maqbool Baqar of the Sindh High Court, and sought extension in their physical remand.

The court extended the remand of both the suspects till Tuesday and directed the investigation officer to produce them on the next hearing.

Earlier, the police had produced the two suspects in court on Aug 22 and obtained their physical remand till Sept 3.

According to the prosecution, three policemen and another person were killed and 30 others wounded in the bus attack carried out by a group of 15 to 20 gunmen riding motorbikes in Korangi.

Furqan, Sagheer Ahmed, Aqeel, Zahid alias Tailor, Tanveer, Saleem, Nadeem and others were absconding accused in the case while Shahid and Asif Chaman were killed in retaliatory fire, it added.

A case (FIR 434/2011) was registered at the Zaman Town police station under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 324 (attempted murder), 302 (premeditated murder), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

Kidnap, murder case

Meanwhile, the same court remanded three suspects in jail custody in a kidnapping and murder case till Sept 10 and directed the investigation officer of the case to submit a charge-sheet on the next hearing.

Moshin, Abu-Al Bashar and Subhan with their absconding accomplices have been charged with attacking the home of a complainant, Ashiq Chandio of the Sindh Dost Party, kidnapping his nephew, Shahzad, and killing two others on Aug 19.A case (FIR 433/2011) was registered at the Zaman police station under Sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148, 149, 427, 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage etc.), 324, 302, 365 (kidnapping with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) and 34 (common intention) of the PPC.
