PESHAWAR, Sept 12: Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti rejected here on Monday the terrorism charge of Muttahida Qaumi Movement against the Awami National Party and asked MQM to instead clarify its own position on the targeted killing of Pakhtuns in Karachi.

Talking to reporters at Malik Saad Khan Police Lines, where he inaugurated work on new buildings of 10 police stations blown up by militants in the province, the chief minister said MQM's public image had been tarnished after former Sindh home minister Zulfiqar Mirza charged it with terrorism, especially targeted killings.

He said MQM chief Altaf Hussain's news conference was a poor response to Mirz's allegations.

“Zulfiqar Mirza made important disclosures backed by solid evidence about MQM's terrorism and therefore, it was the duty of MQM to clarify its position on them. Altaf Hussain however, poorly responded to them and oddly tried to malign other parties,” he said.

Hoti said ANP supported an across-the-board action against land grabbers, target killers and extortionists in Karachi.

He urged MQM leaders to talk sense and stop creating unrest in the country.

Earlier at the function, the chief minister appreciated police for rendering tremendous sacrifices while countering terrorism. He however, said police should be strengthened for peace in the province.

He said the society would have to get united against terrorists.

Earlier, Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Fayyaz Toru said Rs2.5 billion had been allocated in the Annual Development Programme-2009-10 for re-construction of police buildings.

He further said 47 buildings would be rebuilt by 2012 and 13 by June 2014 under the programme.

The police chief also said work on 33 buildings destroyed by militants would be completed under the Rs4 billion Prime Minister Package. He said buildings of six police lines in the province would be re-constructed at the cost of Rs2 billion, while work on 123 structures would be completed over the next three to five years.

Turo said land for 15 police buildings had been purchased, while 10 of the 123 proposed building had been handed over to police.

He said police had bought 385 new vehicles and 200 more would follow soon.

According to him, work on police stations of Ouch Lower Dir, Hoti Mardan, Kohat Cantonment area and Mundan Bannu, police posts of Kingar Gali Buner, Amnawar Buner, Sangota Swat, Aboha Swat and Gamkol Sharif Kohat, and DIG office Mardan had been completed.

The police buildings to be re-constructed include Police Lines of Kohat and Lakki Marwat, and police station of Shamozai Swat, Charsadda, Kohat City, Kohat KDA and Kohat Township.Later, the chief minister distributed certificates to the members of Project Coordination Unit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police for speedy completion of the assigned projects.
