Skardu radio station to be upgraded
SKARDU, Nov 9: Upgrade of Radio Pakistan, Skardu, must be started immediately, Federal Minister for Information and Media Development Nisar Memon said during his visit to Skardu and Gilgit.
There was a strong demand from general public of both the districts of Baltistan (Skardu and Ghangche Siachan and Kargil sectors of the country) to install a high power shortwave transmitter at Skardu to counter the poisonous propaganda of Indian Radio Stations of Ledakh, Srinagar and Kargil in Balti language against Pakistan. Though the radio station here is doing this job since its inception in 1979, but capacity of transmission is very limited.
The minister also said the government wanted to make Radio Pakistan, Skardu, a powerful station in the larger interest of our country.
Public circles strongly demanded of the minister to issue especial instructions to the respective authorities to start work immediately on this important project.—APP
