AS Kaleem Imam has taken over as the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) president, there are hopes for improvement of the sport’s standards in the country.

Kaleem Imam, who is himself a good tennis player, is making allout efforts to overcome the PTF financial crisis.

I would like to give a piece of advice to the new PTF chief.

He should bring the game from some ‘selected few’ to the masses.

This is possible if the government allows duty-free tennis balls and government vacant land is converted into tennis courts.

Wherever courts are, walls should be built so as to allow maximum wall practice to maximum players.

Institutions with strong financial backing should also patronise aspiring players. This land is very fertile, it just needs a little watering.
