Police and crowds clash as protests erupt over load-shedding
LAHORE: People began protesting on the streets of Lahore on Sunday as they suffered long spans of power load-shedding, DawnNews reported. The police tried to disperse the crowds with tear gas and aerial firing, which ended up wounding many protesters. The residents of Chohang area of Lahore said that there has been no electricity in the area for the past four days, and consequently they have been lacking drinkable water as well. The demonstrators chanted against the government and threw stones on the policemen. Many roads were also sealed due to protesters burning tyres and blocking traffic. Efforts by the police to calm the crowds failed as the demonstrators stated that they need an explanation from the Chief Minister of Punjab. Crowds in Gujranwala and Faisalabad took to the streets as well, complaining of 14 to 18 hour power outages.
