KARACHI: Pakistan discard Shahzaib Hasan hammered 144 to help Karachi Blues reach 251-5 against ZTBL on the first day of the second-round Faysal Bank Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Division I match at the National Stadium here on Wednesday.

After put into bat by ZTBL skipper Imran Nazir, Karachi Blues lost four wickets for 79 runs, but Shahzaib, who slammed 17 boundaries during his 218-ball knock, and Javed Mansoor (66 not out) revived the innings in a 166-run partnership.

Former Test left-arm paceman Mohammad Khalil was outstanding in claiming four wickets for 53 runs.

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) also recovered from a poor start – 93-5 – to post 249-7 after losing the toss against Sialkot at the Jinnah Stadium with Rameez Aziz (72 not out) and Gulraiz Sadaf (70) adding 152 for the sixth wicket.

Wapda lost three wickets for 33 runs after Faisalabad were all out for 217 at the Sports Stadium in Sargodha.

National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) found themselves reeling at 25-3 after dismissing Islamabad for 198 at the Diamond Club Ground.

Rameez Ahmed hit an undefeated 105 and Raja Nadeem 81 to help Abbottabad close at 252-8 after Habib Bank skipper Hasan Raza opted to field first at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

Fahad Iqbal’s unbeaten 118 engineered a fine recovery by PIA who reached 259-4 against Rawalpindi at the latter’s ground.

PIA, put into bat, were 69-4 but Fahad and Shoaib Khan (70) lifted them out of trouble through their unbroken partnership of 190.
