Karachi Whites eye second win as Quetta collapse

KARACHI: Karachi Whites were heading for their second win on the trot in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Division II after forcing Quetta to follow on in their match at the NBP Sports Complex here on Thursday.

Paceman Tabish Khan claimed 4-25 and leg-spinner Mansoor Ahmed 3-17 as Quetta collapsed inside 41 overs for just 93 after Karachi Whites reached 346 in their first innings on the second day of the four-day tie. The visitors lost the wicket of Bismillah Khan in reaching 15-1 in the second innings.

United Bank Limited (UBL) were happily placed against Hyderabad after a maiden first-class century from left-handed Itmad-ul-Haq guided them to 460 in their first innings at the UBL Sports Complex. Itmad, the 24-year-old nephew of former Pakistan captain and batting great Inzamam-ul-Haq, slammed an unbeaten 102 off 168 balls with eight boundaries. Misbah Khan also made a useful 50 in the unbroken ninth-wicket partnership of 86 with Itmad.

Hyderabad, in reply, closed at 109-3.

Former Test batsman Bazid Khan hit 103 as KRL put themselves in sight of an early win after taking massive first-innings lead of 273 against Lahore Shalimar at the LCCA Ground.

Replying to Lahore Shalimar’s paltry total of 84, KRL declared at 357-6. The home team then safely negotiated seven overs to reach 13-0 in the second innings.

SNGPL were in control of their match against hosts Multan after declaring their first innings at 510-8. Multan, in reply, were struggling at 114-5.

Resuming at 372-2, SNGPL lost their overnight pair of Ali Waqas and Umar Akmal early in the morning. The left-handed Ali departed after adding just a single to his Wednesday’s score of 104, while Umar fell for 165 after starting the day at 153.

Peshawar took a slim five-run lead after Lahore Ravi finished at 185 in their first innings at the Arbab Niaz Stadium. The hosts reached 149-4 in their second innings.
