Court summons SHO for refusing to book Mirza

KARACHI, Oct 15: A sessions court summoned on Saturday the SHO of Gulberg police station on a plea seeking registration of a case against Sindh’s former home minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza under the blasphemy law.

Rauf Ahmed Siddiqui of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) alleged in the application moved under Section 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code that Dr Mirza while addressing a press conference on Oct 9 had made derogatory remarks against the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Mr Siddiqui submitted through his lawyer that he had approached the police station to lodge an FIR against Dr Mirza, but police said they would not register the case without permission from their seniors.

The MQM leader requested the court to direct the officers concerned to register the FIR.

After preliminary hearing, Additional District and Sessions Judge (Central) Mohammad Azam summoned the SHO of Gulberg police station on Oct 19.
