Remembering Hakim Said
ON the pages of eternity Hakim Said’s name will be written with immortal ink. Remembrance of great people finds the expression of accolades and epithets when they depart. In the case of Hakim Said, people have run out of superlatives.
A true scholar, educationist, entrepreneur, philanthropist, visionary, reflective practitioner, former governor of Sindh, he was murdered on Oct 17, 1998.
Throughout his life, Hakim Said was driven by the desire to create a better world. His life is a shining example of a person living a full professional life with all its responsibilities while fully responsive to societal obligations.
He established the Hamdard Foundation in 1948. Within a few years, herbal medical products of Hamdard became household names.
Hakim Mohammed Said wrote or compiled about 200 books. These include books on religion, tibb (natural medicine), health and sciences, books on literary, social and scientific topics and travelogues.
Hakeem Said founded Hamdard University in 1991. He made enormous contributions in the field of health, science, education and culture.
