SANGHAR, Oct 24: Normality is gradually coming back to Sanghar with the return of rain victims from camps in the city to their villages.However, the premises of the district and sessions court, Civil Hospital, the government boys degree college and many parts of Al Mansoora Colony and Royal City Colony are still knee-deep in water.

The city’s road link with Hyderabad also remains cut off since Sept 9 after it came under water at Shah Beg Mari village. Vehicles have to make a detour through a dirt road, adding 20 kilometres to the distance between the two cities.

Asif Hyder Shah, coordinator of the Sindh government for the district, said that Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shad had issued directives to the works and services department to restore the road.

Heavy currents of rainwater washed away portions of several roads at many points and stagnating rainwater caused potholes.

M.A Jinnah Road, Nawabshah Road, Hyderabad Road and Mirpurkhas Road developed cracks at many places, making movement of heavy vehicles impossible. M. A Jinnah Road is still under water and only light vehicles can use it.

About 80 per cent of stagnant rainwater has been drained out from thickly populated areas like Housing Society, Dhak Paro, Shahanshah Colony and Lander Paro.

In some areas, people pooled labour and cash to rent pumping machines to drain out water from their homes while the district government has installed machines on the workshop road to drain out water from the city.

About 50 days after heavy rains, the Civil Hospital is still knee-deep in water.

Inhabitants of Civil Hospital’s residential colony have vacated their homes as the stagnant water has made life miserable.
