NAB to pay back money to scam victims
ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated a process to reimburse the recovered amount among victims of different fraud cases, including the famous Double Shah scam.
“The amount is being reimbursed on directives of newly-appointed NAB chairman Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari,” NAB spokesman said on Friday. The chairman directed NAB officials for immediate payment to affected people in case of Double Shah and other scams like Iqra Housing Society and Lal Shahbaz Housing Society.
During regular briefings the NAB chairman received since his appointment, he was apprised that due to absence of the chairman a large number of victims could not get back their money recovered by NAB in different scams.
The NAB has processed cases for ensuring immediate payment of nearly Rs615 million with no loss of time and the amount would now be disbursed among the affected people.
“The NAB chairman also expressed his desire that if any genuine claim remains unpaid in one month, the legitimate claimants can apply to him directly,” the spokesman said.
It has been learnt that over 46,000 victims had lost their hard-earned money in the Rs7.4 billion Double Shah scam.
NAB has already made a plea bargain deal with two groups of the Double Shah scam — Sibtul Hasan Gillani alias Double Shah and Tassawar Hussain Gillani.
