ISLAMABAD, Nov 3: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chairman Zafar Iqbal Qadir has said that out of $216 million pledged by donors for flood relief efforts Pakistan has so far received $125.5 million in cash and relief goods worth $11 million.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, he said the situation in Sindh was yet far from normal, adding that dewatering in Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Badin and Thatta would take another month for completion.

Mr Qadir said the damage need assessment report being compiled by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank would be presented to the NDMA after Eid.

He said the report would highlight the extent of damage floods had caused to infrastructure, agriculture and property.

According to the NDMA assessment, Badin, Dadu, Ghotki, Hyderabad, Jacobabad, Jamshoro, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Kashmore, Khairpur, Larkana, Matiari, Mirpurkhas, Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar, Benazirabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Tando Allahyar, Tando Mohammed Khan, Tharparkar, Thatta, Umerkot and Karachi were affected by the recent floods.

He said that 9.2 million people had been affected in the flood-hit areas where 806 relief camps had been set up by the NDMA and a total of 283,521 people were still living in those camps.

About 6.1 million acres of land had also been affected.

He said the NDMA had received Rs5.3 billion and Rs5 billion from the federal and the provincial governments, respectively, for relief work.
