In music: Fakhir: Jee Chahay

After almost half a decade, Fakhir returns to the limelight with his third album, Jee Chahay. It has been composed and produced by the singer and recorded at Shani’s Studio with lyrcis by Sabir Zafar and Indian poet Prashant Vasal.

“After Mantra, I was touring for almost two to three years,” said Fakhir about the long break. “And before I could record the new album; my father passed away.”

Jee Chahay has 10 songs and kicks off with the catchy Allah Karey. The video is currently doing the rounds on various TV music channels.

Bailya is a signature Fakhir track and a ballad. Shikva sees the artiste get sentimental and as a romantic number this track has the potential of finding its way into a Bollywood film’s soundtrack. The surprise qawwali addition and Prashant’s lyrics add value to it. Atom Bomb is a R&B Punjabi track with a catchy chorus “marjawan gurr kha kar.” The fun track Sheede is laced with desi slang such as “phitte munh”, “mufta” and “hudd-haram” and it seems that Fakhir is gunning for a lot of unwanted elements in society.

After the lackluster Parva, Mitti Pao has a sound similar to a typical W-11 route bus playlist. It is about women, backstabbing friends and family, and a typical workplace situation. The album closes with the motivational Mere Maula.

“Jee Chahay is not a departure from the kind of albums I have released. However, I have progressed as a musician, composer and producer,” states Fakhir.
