ITF Seniors Tennis set to commence on 22nd
KARACHI, Nov 15: The 15th PSO Pakistan Open ITF Seniors Tennis Championship, the third seniors’ activity of the year in the country under the banner of Pakistan Seniors Tennis Association (PSTA), gets into action at the Karachi Club from Nov 22.
“Pakistan stand tall becoming the only nation in the region to stage three events in a calendar year,” claimed president of the PSTA and veteran tennis player, Khawaja Saeed Hai, in a press conference held at the venue on Tuesday.
The first event was held in the city in March while the second is currently in progress at Lahore and concludes on Thursday.
Hai said the ITF seniors’ events had attracted foreigners, particularly from India, in the past but now security concerns have kept them away. However, two Karachi-based foreigners — Wolf Gang (Germany) and Andro Shalakadze (Georgia) — have entered in the contest.
According to the details, organisers have received entries from Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Hyderabad, apart from the city. Former Davis Cupper Rashid Malik has also confirmed his participation.
Sheikh Mohammad Minhas, Brand Manager, PSO, and Yousuf Sulaiman, secretary KC and Khalid Rehmani also spoke on the occasion.
The sponsors have doled out a sum of rupees 0.3 million for the event.
Meanwhile, the events that will take place include 35 plus singles, 45 plus singles and doubles and 55 plus singles and doubles.
The last date for submission of entries is Nov 18.
All the outstation players are entitled for Rs500 daily allowance until their elimination. The seeded outstation players will also get economy class return railway fare. Rashid Malik is the exception whom the organisers are giving air fare.
