Plea against Sherry dismissed

LAHORE, Nov 30: The Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed as withdrawn a civil miscellaneous application on Wednesday against the appointment of Pakistan People’s Party leader Sherry Rehman as Pakistan’s new ambassador to the United State.

Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh observed that a constitutional matter should not be pleaded through miscellaneous application therefore the petitioner may file a separate writ petition to assail the impugned appointment.

Petitioner Advocate Azhar Siddique sought permission from the court to withdraw his application, saying the respondent had resigned as member of the National Assembly.

The judge allowed the request and dismissed the application as withdrawn.

The lawyer had filed the application into his an already pending main petition seeking Ms Rehman’s permanent disqualification for presenting a bill in the National Assembly to amend the Blasphemy Law (section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code).
