Women stage demo against low gas pressure in Chakwal

CHAKWAL, Dec 26: Forced by low gas pressure the women of Chakwal city took to streets and blocked Bhoun Chowk on Monday.

Carrying placards with slogans inscribed on them and demanding restoration of gas pressure they blocked the chowk for more than an hour. They chanted slogans against the rulers who they alleged had failed to provide the basic facilities to the citizens.

They complained that they were unable to cook food for their families in the absence of gas. Their children were forced to use cold water for washing and they were left with no option but to buy costly food from hotels.

The protesters then went to the office of gas department located on Rawalpindi road. Sensing the danger, the officials shut the gate of the office from inside. The women who, by that time, were joined by children and men attacked the gate with clubs and tried to break it open. They chanted slogans against gas officials and demanded to close the CNG stations and provide gas for houses.

The protesters dispersed after the officials ensured them that the problem would be solved soon. — A Correspondent
