Karachi Table Tennis from 23rd
KARACHI, Jan 3: A record number of 22 events of different categories will be organised during the Karachi Table Tennis championship which is scheduled to take place at the Majeed Khan gymnasium of Islamia Club from Jan 23 to 28.
Once considered as the prestigious annual event in the yesteryears and produced a galaxy of national players, the competition is now being held after a lapse of over two years.
The affairs of the Karachi Table Tennis Association (KTTA) are being run by a governing body which was set up last year.
The body has appointed veteran international player and now an ITTF qualified coach, Arif Khan, as the organising secretary.
The events that will take place in the weeklong competition include: men’s singles ranking (for KTTA players only), men’s singles invitational, men’s doubles, women’s singles ranking (for KTTA players only), women’s singles invitational, women’s doubles, men’s and women’s team events, mixed doubles, boys’ under-18 singles and doubles, girls’ under-18 singles and doubles, mixed under-18 doubles, boys’ under-15 singles and doubles, girls’ under-15 singles and doubles, boys’ under-12 singles and doubles, girls’ under-12 singles and doubles.
The men and women’s singles invitational events will feature top eight ranked men and women players of Karachi besides players from the PTTF-affiliated units of the city.
Handsome cash prizes will be at stake in addition to trophies and certificates.
Players who are interested to compete in the championship have been asked to send their entries either through their club, institute or firm or contact organising secretary at the Islamia Club.—Sports Correspondent
