Nicol captures squash title
LONDON, Jan 9: World number one Nicol David captured the World Series Finals title on Sunday when the Malaysian star defeated Ireland's Madeline Perry 11-9, 119, 11-9 in the Queen's Club final.
David dropped just one game all week in the semifinals against Laura Massaro and she was too strong for world number three Perry in the final.
'Winning the title is a great start to 2012 and having the top eight players here and contending for it makes it very special,' said the Malaysian.
'I have felt good all week. Hopefully there's more to come.
In the men's event, four-time world champion Amr Shabana of Egypt defeated France's Gregory Gaultier 611, 12-10, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8.
'I can't player better. I was nearly out last year thinking about if it's time to watch the players play rather than competing with them,' said the 32-year-old Shabana.
'If it wasn't for my friends and family one of whom was Greg, who kept telling me to push I think I would have retired. I tried my best.
