NBP crush Fata in National Junior Hockey

LAHORE, Jan 10: Four matches were decided on the first day of the 31st Under-21 National Junior Hockey Championship at the National Hockey Stadium here on Tuesday.

Seven goals by Ayub Ali and five by Mohammad Dilber powered NBP to crush Fata 23-0 after taking a lead by a dozen goals in the first half.

Ayub banged home in the 16th, 30th, 30th, 42nd, 44th, 48th and 69th minutes. Dilber netted five goals in the 5th, 7th, 22nd, 23rd and 27th minutes. Kashif Javed (11th, 28th, 25th, 69th minutes), Khurram Shahzad (8th, 26th, 69th), Arsalan Qadir (46th), Zohaib Azeem Khan (50th, 66th) and Ahmed Zubair (53rd) were other scorers.

In the other match, Pakistan Railways registered 2-0 win against Pakistan Board. Ateeq Arshad struck a goal in the seventh minute cashing in on a field attempt, while Akbar Ali netted a goal in the 57th minute to double the lead.

The PHF Academy also carved out 3-0 win against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Mudassar Ali (24th), Mawadit Ali (57th) and M Ali Khan (70th) scored for the winning side.

Likewise, Wapda outplayed Punjab Whites 6-1 as Mohammad Irfan (22nd, 30th) and Aleem Bilal (31st, 57th) struck two goals each. M Suleman (10th) and Asad (36th) were the other scorers. Arslan slammed a goal in the 45h minute for the losing side.

Meanwhile, the scrutiny committee headed by Khawaja Junaid barred 20 overage players from taking part in the championship.
