Jr squash enters last-four stage
HYDERABAD, Jan 15: Tayyab Aslam of Punjab bounced back after losing the first game to win boys’ under-19 quarter-final against Nouman Khan of Sindh in the second Rehana Nazar Rashidabad National Junior Squash Championship.
The championship which began on Saturday witnessed some exciting matches at the Rehana Nazar Squash Complex, Rashidabad District Tando Allayar on Sunday.
The winner lost the first game 9-11 but did not lose hope and registered comeback in next games to book his berth in the semi-finals.
In another quarter-final, Bilal Zakir defeated Salman Mohib 3-1.
The winner won the first two games but lost the third.
He, however, kept his nerves intact to win the fourth game and seal the fate of the match.
In boys’ U-17 quarters, Fahim Gul of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa showed courage when he rose from the first game defeat to topple Aqif Zaib of the same province.
Fahim won with 9-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 scoreline.
As compared to boys’, girls sailed plainly towards the last-four stage.
Samar Anjum of Punjab trounced Neha Khan of Sindh in straight games (11-7, 11-1, 11-5) in U-19 event.
Similarly, Riffat Khan clinched her one-sided quarter-final against Aman Lateef 11-3, 11-7, 11-3.
In girls’ U-15 matches, Madina Zafar of Sindh gave no room to her opponent to show any signs of resistance and won her match comfortably against Roshail Sheikh of Sindh.
The score remained 11-2, 11-4, 11-2.
