Japan to set up emergency centre in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD, Feb 3: The Japanese government would establish an emergency centre in Hyderabad in order to help face any future calamity and shift vulnerable population to safe places, said a Japanese delegation here on Friday.

The delegation headed by Mr Takashi Onuma was briefed in detail about the damage caused by calamities at the commissioner's office and assess losses during recent rains in Hyderabad district.

Mr Onuma told the meeting that fundamental purpose of their visit was to collect statistics about affected people, take measures about their rehabilitation and establish an emergency centre at the district level to help meet natural calamities.

He said the staff of concerned departments would also be imparted technical training to enhance their capabilities to meet such challenges.

The delegation urged the district administration to provide statistics of the affected people at union council level and help in their rehabilitation. Japanese government had had provided help and relief in the affected areas through National Disaster Management Authority during recent rains and it also helped in shifting the affected people to safe places, said the delegates.

Additional deputy commissioner Aijazul Hassan told the delegation that some areas of Hyderabad were located in depression areas and the administration had faced a host of problems in the absence of required machinery and trained staff.
