President meets PM, summons core committee meeting

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari met Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at the President House on Saturday, sources told DawnNews.

According to the sources, the president and the prime minister discussed important issues of national interest and exchanged views on the overall situation of the country.

The leaders also discussed the 20th constitutional amendment and the contempt of court case against PM Gilani, sources said.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) core committee was also summoned by the president on Sunday.

The session, scheduled to be held at the President House, would focus on the government’s strategy for the passage of the 20th constitutional amendment in the National Assembly, while matters pertaining to relations between the government and judiciary will also be discussed.

PM Gilani’s lawyer, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsen will also brief the members on constitutional matters at the session jointly chaired by the president and prime minister.
