Anti-encroachment campaign fizzles out in Kohat

KOHAT, Feb 22: The anti-encroachment campaign launched about three weeks ago by the district administration has failed to produce any results.

In this regard, Commissioner Sahibzada Mohammad Anees while chairing a meeting had ordered the shifting of taxi stands from bazaar to a less congested area and asked the shopkeepers to remove illegal encroachments within one week. He had also asked the tehsil municipal administration to remove the carts from the jail road and clear the road from kiosks.

Though all the stakeholders, including representatives of bazaar unions and high officials, were present at the meeting, which was held 20 days ago, but still the situation remained the same as was before.

The administration had announced these steps to facilitate traffic and pedestrians’ movement.

Later, Kohat DIG Masood Afridi, who has been recently transferred to Peshawar, had also held a mee-ting of police heads of the three districts of the region and asked them to prepare proposals within two weeks for the encroachment drive, but hardly any result-oriented action was seen.

Deputy district revenue officer, Lachi tehsil, Shahid Ali had warned the shopkeepers and transporters to leave the illegally occupied places within one week, but it was yet to be seen whether his warning would produce any result or not.
