Boxer gets financial help

KARACHI, Feb 23: Keeping its tradition alive, the Sindh sports department presented a cheque of Rs 0.5 million to ailing Olympian pugilist Jan Mohammad at a ceremony held at a local hotel on Wednesday evening. Sindh Sports Minister, Dr. Mohammad Ali Shah, presented the cheque to the veteran boxer for his treatment. President of the POA, Lt. Gen (retd) Syed Arif Hasan and secretary sports Sindh, Shoaib Siddiqui, were also present.

The 62-year-old Jan Mohammad is a veteran boxer who participated in the Munich Olympic Games in 1972, and four Asian Games besides numerous international championships.

Jan Mohammad is suffering from lung cancer and was recently discharged from hospital after the necessary treatment. He runs famous RCD Boxing Club.
