Blast destroys boys school in Swabi
SWABI, Feb 24: A major part of the government primary school for boys, Khat Killay, was destroyed in a pre-dawn blast here on Friday while bomb disposal squad defused another homemade device at the site. However, no casualty was reported.
Kalu Khan police station officials said that unidentified militants had planted two homemade bombs at the veranda of the primary school, one of which exploded at 1:30am, destroying two of its four classrooms.
They said that the explosion created a big bang. The police said that they reached the site and also found an unexploded device in the school.
They said that the bomb was brought to the Kalu Khan police station and defused there.
The officials said that explosion of the second device would have completely destroyed the school building. They have asked the schoolchildren not to come to school till further orders of the education department.
However, the residents of Khat Killay said that the remaining two rooms were also partially damaged and the building could no longer serve the purpose.
In another such incident, a bomb exploded near the gate of Lakson Tobacco Company at Yar Hussain village here late on Thursday night. However, there were no casualties.
An official of Yar Hussain police station said that it was the first time that militants had targeted a tobacco company though there was no damage.
Police have registered separate FIRs of the explosions against unidentified militants.
