Aqeel, Iman clinch Subh-e-Nau Tennis titles

KARACHI, Feb 27: Spirited Iman Qureshi thrashed Saba Aziz to win the ladies singles’ final of the Subh-e-Nau National Tennis Championship at the City Sports Complex.

Iman surprised spectators with her brilliant tennis as Saba is the current top seed in the national rankings.

The winner had already disposed of top players like Sara Mansoor in the quarter-final and Maheen Dada in the semi-final.

Yasir Khan played well and showed some resistance against his elder brother Aqeel Khan in the men’s singles final, but the latter managed to clinch the trophy with 7-5, 7-6(10-8) scoreline.

Aqeel also won men’s doubles title, partnering with Jalil Khan against Yasir Khan and Heera Ashiq.

Adil Kohari bagged boys’ U-18 title against Ahmed Babar with an easy victory.

Nofil Kaleem of Islamabad clinched boys’ U-14 title against Dawar Rehan.

Houd Azhar clinched boys & girls’ U-11 crown.

A total of Rs200,000 were distributed among the players of all categories.

Aqeel pocketed Rs35,000 while Yasir received Rs18,000.

Iman got Rs20,000 while Saba took home Rs12,000.

Karachi administrator Mohammad Hussain Syed was the chief guest of the occasion.
