THATTA: Three children killed in landslip

THATTA, Dec 3: Three children were killed while a fourth was seriously injured in a landslip at the Makli Hill, near the filter plant, on Tuesday.

Gul Mohammad Dandhal, 9; Qulsoom, 7, daughter of Lal Mohammad Dandhal; Asghar, 6, son of Soomar Dandhal; and Ali Hassan were playing at the foot of the hill near their temporary abode when they were hit by the landslip and buried under it.

Their families rushed to the site on hearing their cries for help and dug them out. They were taken to the Civil Hospital Makli where the doctors advised their parents to take them to Karachi.

However, since they had no money, they preferred returning to their ancestral village, Abdul Rehman Dandhal, in Jati Taluka. Three of the children — Gul, Qulsoom, and Asghar — succumbed to their injuries while being taken there. Only Ali Hassan was able to survive.

GASTROENTERITIS: Three more people died of gastroenteritis in Thatta district on Tuesday.

Those who died were identified as Ibrahim Charejo, resident of the Yousuf Charejo village; Jeniani, daughter of Mohammad Charejo; and another girl, whose name could not be ascertained. However, it was learnt that she belonged to the Soban Shah village and was the daughter of Syed Hashim Shah.

Fifteen more patients have been admitted to the rural health centre, Chuhar Jamali.

The staff at the rural health centre said that out of 4,392 patients, 1,222 were suffering from gastroenteritis.

The provincial secretary, health, Aamir Barq, had chaired a meeting of the district health officers and the DG, Health, at Gharo on Tuesday to review the arrangements for providing medical facilities.
