KOHAT, March 14: The Kohat National Movement has demanded closure of the thirty years old Afghan refugee camp in the Jungle Khel area of the city, which has been ‘infiltrated’ by militants.

The president of the movement, Ameer Khan Afridi, while addressing a jirga at Jungle Khel on Wednesday asked the government to immediately close the Afghan refugee camp because it was creating security problems to the local residents. He said due to presence of militants even police could not enter the area during night.

The jirga was attended by former UC nazim Mir Zaman Shinwari, president of bazaar union Israr Shinwari, chairman of employees union of tehsil municipal administration Ayub Khan, Maulana Naseeruddin, Pir Muslim Shah and large number of youth.

They said they had given their land to the refugees thirty years ago as a gesture of goodwill and to provide shelter to Pakhtun families. But now the camp had become bane of residents.

The Kohat National Movement president also asked the district administration to conduct house to house search in the camp till the time it was shifted to somewhere else.

The jirga criticised the appointment of 168 linemen from Charsadda and Peshawar against the vacant posts in Kohat.

ACCIDENT: The vehicular traffic remained suspended for an hour after two cars and a passenger coach collided inside the Kohat Friendship Tunnel on Indus Highway the other day.

Five people, including two women, were injured in the accident. They were shifted to KDA divisional headquarters hospital.Their condition was stated to be out of danger.

The traffic suspension caused long queues of vehicles on both sides of the tunnel. The traffic was cleared after usual security check-up which took at least three hours.

Officials said a passenger coach (RPT-3533) going to Peshawar collided with the cars (ARD-202 and ARD-2048) right in the middle of the 1.85-kilometer-long tunnel. They said the accident occurred due to over-speeding.
