New police plan hits snags in Faisalabad
FAISALABAD, Dec 4: The separation of the investigation and watch-and-ward wings, envisaged by the new police plan, has hit snags in the district.
The district has seven sub-division — Saddar, Jaranwala, Samundri, Tandlianwala, Civil Lines, Peoples Colony and Gulberg. However, staff have been deputed for separate investigation and watch-and-ward wings at Civil Lines only.
A number of inspectors, sub-inspectors and subordinate personnel have been asked to report to the investigation cell, which, however, has not started functioning so far. The investigation staff are sitting idle in their offices as they have not been provided the relevant record of criminal cases.
A police source told this correspondent here on Wednesday that 19 sub-inspectors, 17 assistant sub-inspectors and over three dozen head-constables and constables had refused to become part of the investigation wing and were running from pillar to post to get themselves adjusted with the watch-and-ward wing.
According to the source, only three inspectors, four sub-inspectors and 43 constables and head-constables had so far become part of the investigation wing of the city police.
Headed by a woman DSP, they have been receiving their salaries for the last one year without doing anything worthwhile.
The sources claimed that some senior police officials at the provincial level were also reluctant to execute the plan for various reasons.
