Pollution on the rise

ISLAMABAD, April 1: Environmental pollution is increasing at an alarming rate in the capital, which is also affecting the adjoining areas.

Citizens said cutting of trees, improper garbage disposal, faulty sewerage system and constructions of roads were the main factors causing environmental pollution. It has been observed that there is no proper system of solid waste treatment and uncovered drains run through the city.

Multiple development projects, widening of roads and construction of underpasses are carried out which cause deforestation besides concentration of harmful gases in the air.

A citizen, Anwar Abbas, said more roads and driving lanes might help alleviate the traffic problems but these projects created air pollution problems.

Therefore, an effective air management plan will necessitate the introduction of an environment-friendly public transport system to reduce the number of cars on the road.

When contacted, a CDA official said the authority was planning to eliminate the pollution from the city by improving sewerage system and focussing on other areas. —APP
