PML-N rally: Benazir Road to remain closed
RAWALPINDI, April 2: Benazir Bhutto road will remain closed for traffic from 2pm to 6pm on Wednesday during the protest rally of local chapter of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) against long-hours electricity loadshedding and surge in petroleum prices.
The decision to provide safe passage to the protest rally was taken by the local administration.
The rally will be taken out from Liaquat Bagh under the leadership of PML-N Rawalpindi city general secretary Haji Pervez Khan and participated by the party local leaders and city office-bearers women, traders, and activists of youth wing.
The protest rally will terminate at Moti Mehal Chowk.
The City District Administration has been holding meetings with the PML-N leaders aimed at chalking out a plan to keep the temper of the participants of the rally cool.They fear the rally might turn violent after the recent surge in petroleum product’s prices.
Chief Traffic Officer Ghulam Abbas Tarar on Monday released a traffic plan according to which Benzir Bhutto road will remain closed for all kind of traffic from Chandni chowk to Mareer chowk and Mareer chowk to TMA chowk. No vehicle would be allowed on the said route.
Traffic from and to Islamabad will be diverted to Airport Road, The Mall, Rawal Road and Peshawar road, whereas for down town city the motorists can use Railway Carriage factory road, Gunjmandi, Khayban-i-Sir Syed, Dhoke Dilal and Sadiqabad Road.
On the other hand, the district police will deploy additional force to maintain security during PML-N protest rally.— Mohammad Asghar
