Tall women are more exposed to ovarian cancer

A research conducted by researchers in University of Oxford shows that taller women are more susceptible to develop ovarian cancer than short women, according to a news report in The Hindu.

The report published in The Hindu states that larger body size can be one of the reasons of developing ovarian cancer; however the effect depends on whether women have used hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or not.

As per the findings of the research, which are based on the sample size of 25,000 women who had ovarian cancer and more than 80,000 women who did not have it, proves that for every five cm increase in height, the risk of developing ovarian cancer increases by seven per cent. The statement signifies that a 165 cm tall woman is 14 per cent more prone to develop cancer of ovaries than a woman who is 155 cm tall.
