LAHORE: Massive renovation work has begun at the Gaddafi Stadium in order to give it a fresh look for the Pakistan-Bangladesh cricket matches, scheduled to be held here later this month.

The pavilion, the dressing rooms and different enclosures are being put in order while several new chairs will replace the old, battered ones in various enclosures. Also, large-scale plantation is being done in and around the stadium to give it a new look prior to the series.

The pitch condition is also being improved while chief groundsman Haji Mohammad Bashir is looking quite busy alongwith the other ground staff in preparing a sporting track for the contests.

Besides, a thick wall is being constructed outside the main gate and at the entrance of the stadium to provide extra safety and security for the vehicles carrying the teams and other staff into the stadium.

“We have ample time to prepare the arena for the matches and we will finish the renovation work in eight to ten days,” said a PCB spokesman on Monday.

He said efforts will be made to host the matches in a befitting manner and to organise smooth, incident-free contests. He further added that top security will be provided to the visiting team.—APP
