National boxing gets underway

LAHORE, April 23: Twelve bouts were decided on the opening day of the 34th National Boxing Championship which started at the Punjab College Hall here on Monday.

In the 49-kg weight category five bouts were decided, while in 52-kg six bouts and in 56-kg only one was decided.

President of the Pakistan Olympic Association General (retired) Arif Hasan inaugurated the championship.

Results:

49-kg: Saroz (Navy) bt Saqib (Fata) RSC; Mohammad Nauman (Army) bt Tanvir (Islamabad) RSC; Tabish (HEC) bt Abdul Jabbar (Balochistan) RSC), Naqeebullah (Wapda) bt Jahanzaib (Sindh) RSC; Shoaib Murad (Rangers) bt Salahuddin (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) RSC. 52-kg: Jamal (Army) bt Asmat Yar (Punjab) on points; Waheed (PAF) bt Asif (Navy) 6-2 points; M. Wasim (Wapda) bt Qadeer (Islamabad) on points; Aamir Qureshi (HEC) bt Akhtar Ali (Punjab) on points; Shoaib (Sindh) bt Dilsher (Balochistan) on points. 56-kg: M. Raza (Railways) bt Mohibullah (Punjab Police) on points.
