Women complaint cell closed

RAWALPINDI, April 25: Civil Lines SHO has sent women complaint cell in his police station packing.

Giving a dissent note in ‘roznamcha’ of his station he said, “The issues related to women cannot be discussed in the presence of male staff so it is suggested that women police officers should be transferred to their police station.”

The women complaint cells were established at Civil Line, Airport and Westridge police stations in November last year to facilitate women victims of crimes. In line with the IGP’s policy, such complaint cells were to be established in others police stations of the district as well.

Two lady constables were posted at each complaint cell, although they were neither provided separate room nor were any other facility.

The only women police station in Rawalpindi, located adjacent to the Civil Lines police station, was established by former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 1994.

However, Civil Lines SHO Raja Shakeel, when contacted, said a separate room for women complaint cell was being constructed in the police station.

He said: “The women complaint cell would start functioning on Thursday.”

He acknowledged that for now the women police staff of the complaint cell was working at women police station.
