People of Swabi protest price hike, loadshedding
SWABI, April 29: The workers of Awami Party Pakistan staged a protest demonstration here on Sunday against hike in prices of essential commodities and prolonged power loadshedding.
The workers gathered in the district office of the party and marched on different roads. The rally turned into a big public gathering at Karnal Sher Khan Chowk.
The enraged workers were chanting slogans against the coalition government of Awami National Party and Pakistan People’s Party. They alleged that the government failed to deliver.
They said that loadshedding was increased manifolds with the arrival of the summer season. The rulers were enjoying uninterrupted electricity facility, they added.
In addition, Peshawar Electric Supply Company sent inflated power bills to consumers, they added. They said that even widows and orphans were not spared.
The protesters said that prices of essential commodities were increased regularly but government was not ready to check the same. They said that traders were also overcharging consumers.
ACCIDENT: A six-year-old boy was killed when a speedy tractor-trolley hit him in Baja area here on Sunday, police said.
Ghulam Qadir, the father of the child, lodged an FIR with the City police station. He told police that his son Jamshed Khan accompanied him to the bazaar where he came for shopping. Suddenly a tractor-trolley, bearing registration number Shikhapura-4246, that was on its way to Swabi from Topi hit the boy when he was crossing road at Baja bus stop, he added.
He said that his son was killed on the spot. People chased the driver identified as Niaz Mohammad but he dodged them and managed to escape, Mr Qadir said.
