Factory closure: Swabi leaders to meet CM for help today

SWABI, May 3: Local politicians, including Awami National Party district president Rehmanullah, on Thursday visited the protest camp set up by workers of Fauji Corn Complex, Jahangira, against its abrupt closure and assured them that they would meet with Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti in Peshawar on Friday (today) for resolution of the issue.

Mohim Shah and other leaders of about 300 factory workers, who had been rendered jobless, said that they had authorised Mr Rehmanullah-led delegation to meet the chief minister for seeking his help in reopening of the factory. They said that workers or their leaders would not be part of the delegation, which also included former district nazim Shahram Khan Tarakai and MPA Sardar Ali.

When contacted, Mr Shahram said that they would urge the chief minister to play his role for reopening of the factory to save the livelihood of poor workers.

The workers apprised the three leaders of their grievances at the protest camp. The local politicians decided to meet the chief minister after their talks for reopening of the factory with its managing director Altaf Naeem proved fruitless.

The workers said that they were assured by the visiting politicians and labour leaders that they would fight their case with devotion, as their expulsion was against labour laws of the country.

The workers also announced that their protest would continue on Friday as planned. However, they said that they believed in peaceful settlement of their problems.
