Fahim seeks Jamali’s support

ISLAMABAD, Dec 10: In an effort to form government in Sindh, President People’s Party Parliamentarian Makhdoom Amin Fahim on the second consecutive day, today, met Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali.

“We demanded of the prime minister that the PPP being the single largest party in the province should get an official invitation to form government,” Fahim later told Dawn.

The PPP president was accompanied by Qaim Ali Shah, Khajawa Ahmed Tariq Rahim and Brig (retd) Amanullah at the meeting held at the prime minister’s secretariat.

The PM after his first round of talks with Makhdoom Fahim on Monday called on President Gen Pervez Musharraf and remained with him until after midnight.

When asked about the PM’s response to the PPP’s demand, Fahim said that they had not received any reply yet.

The PPP president said that they would declare their party’s candidate for the chief ministership of Sindh after receiving an official invitation to form government in Sindh.

The party reportedly has put forward the names of Qaim Ali Shah and Makhdoom Jameel-uz-zaman for Sindh’s top slot.

There is convergence of views between the government and the PPP on these two names, however, some other matters, including the nature and extent of party’s support for the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Q government at the centre, are still to be sorted out, a party source said.
